Hidden Treks was started by a group of expert hikers who joined forces to provide travellers to the USA an in-depth guide of the best places to explore all over the country. Their business first started as a blog with each member writing about their experiences and offering tips on secret locations to readers. It was a huge success and has grown so much in popularity that they were looking for a website to show their in-depth knowledge of the best locations for their readers. The readership they currently have is based all over America, therefore they wanted to be able to offer recommendations state-by-state so individuals have choice on where they can go. Readers vary in their level of expertise so they offer routes for beginners, intermediate and expert persons.
For this design, I wanted to show the landscapes where the routes would be with some stunning imagery and wanted this to be prominent on the page. As searching is a key function that the users want to perform, I made sure to put this front and centre on the homepage when a user first visits the site. After doing some research on some of the businesses competitors, I also researched some trails across the USA that I could include in my design. As I had already done a branding project for this business, I carried over the logos and colours to this project. I created a hero section of the website, that shows some attractive imagery as well as the primary search function of the site. Following the hero section, I designed a section for popular routes, with image-based cards which show the trail name, location, difficulty, distance and star rating. Further down the page I added a section to promote the Hidden Treks mobile app, as well as some statistics about the site, routes and users. Finally I added a newsletter subscription form.
This is a personal project based on a brief from the Briefbox
